What’s Happening at UpWorks?
As we launched into 2019, many new updates came our way:
- UpWorks moved to north Minneapolis! Our office is now located on 1110 W. Broadway Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55411. It is a beautiful space that will give us room to grow, host meetings and trainings on site.
- Come visit us during our Open House on April 26th 11am-1pm! Light refreshments will be served.
- As UpWorks settles into north Minneapolis, we respect and honor the residents, businesses, churches, and nonprofits that have been working here for many years, and for some a lifetime. UpWorks staff started in this community with a prayer walk and time of building dedication. Our new location already feels like home. The UpWorks staff is looking forward to supporting, however we can, the excellent initiatives already in progress.

Empowering Adults Program
Empowering Adults had an amazing first quarter with 21 new participants and 32 new Life Advocates trained. We’re deepening relationships with key partners and seeing momentum build in community interest. We encourage you to share this wonderful opportunity to be a Life Advocate with your friends and neighbors. This opportunity allows you to walk alongside someone who is pursuing God’s purpose and plan for their life!
A recent highlight from the Empowering Adults program is the phenomenal change in a young man’s life, Kennis L.
Kennis embraced God’s vision of him becoming an entrepreneur and built a start-up staffing business. From no contracts to multiple contracts with employers, while also placing more than 10 men and women with prior background issues in the workplace. In addition, Kennis started a second appliance delivery business, all in less than 120 days.

Upcoming Life Advocate Training
The next Life Advocate Training & Orientation is on April 27th from 9AM – 1:30PM located at the UpWorks Office Training Room.
Enriching Schools Program
Enriching Schools establishes stronger schools, stronger families, and a stronger community, one student at a time. The relationships that are formed through the Enriching Schools program pave the way for students to reach their full potential, which strengthens the future of the whole community.
In Bloomington, where Enriching Schools started, we have connected with the partnership between Hillcrest Elementary and Hillcrest United Methodist Church. We are launching into a new partnership with Indian Mounds Elementary and Evergreen Community Church. Across the Twin Cities, Enriching Schools is making great connections in several new Districts, highlighted by the start of a partnership between Evergreen Park World Cultures Community School and the Korean Presbyterian Church in the Anoka-Hennepin School District. We found once a partnership is formed between a school and church there is no limit to the impact that occurs in people’s lives. Additional partnerships are right on the edge of getting started. We are excited to see partnerships grow!

Enriching Schools Partnership Breakfast Event
UpWorks Enriching Schools is hosting a Bloomington Faith Community Partnership Breakfast on April 30.
Please join us at the District Educational Service Center to celebrate and learn more about Church/School Partnerships from 9:00am-10:30am.
On-Track 4 Employment Program
On-Track 4 Employment’s official launch is a month away! Orientation is set for April 25th at 6:00pm. The first day of training starts April 29 and reoccurs on Monday and Thursday evenings.
Currently, our focus has been on finalizing curriculum, networking, interviewing and recruiting participants and volunteers. The recruitment process has allowed our Director of Community Relations, Stacey Jones, to meet with several pastors and give church presentations.
The participants are excited to begin this new journey. We are hopeful and expecting a fruitful outcome!
